Funeral of Sheriff Morehead One of Largest Ever Held in This Section

The funeral for Sheriff L. E. Morehead, slain at Steep Hollow schoolhouse by Commodore Bullock, drew about 4 000 mourners in Brazos County. Morehead, serving his third term, left a wife Bassie, daughter Obie, two children Eula Dell Milton, and a large family. The service in Bryan honored his long public service and community ties.

Evans Home on College Road Sold to Two Buyers

H. H. Williamson and T. B. Wood have bought a 77 acre College road farm from C. M. Evans of Dallas. The two story east facing house lies near the L G N tracks two miles from Bryan and will be renovated for Wood and family. Williamson plans a new home on adjacent vacant lots for eventual Wood occupancy.

Chamber set to meet Wednesday at 10 A M

Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce officers and committee chairmen to hold a special meeting Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Secretary Eberstadt reported on trips to Palestine and Longview discussing the Bryan plan and opposition to fake solicitors. Allen Military Academy cadets outlined a $700 pool fund goal. a $600 play would fund the pool with open access in summer. Health Week in Bryan slated for April 13 with mayoral proclamation and chamber support. A committee to draft resolutions on the death of Sheriff L E Morehead was appointed.

Lightning Sets Edge Barn Ablaze. Emmett Holland Loses

A barn at Emmett Holland's property in Edge was struck by lightning and burned Friday night. Holland removed his stock but suffered about 2000 dollars in loss for the barn and its contents including harness saddles and equipment amid a heavy rainstorm. Edge reported heavier rainfall than nearby Bryan that night.

Marriage Licenses Issued in Brazos County This Week

Morehead elected sheriff of Brazos County in special meeting

In a special called meeting at the Bryan county courthouse Mrs L E Morehead was unanimously appointed to fill the unexpired term of her late husband L E Morehead. She bonded and qualified before noon and named J E Covey deputy sheriff and office manager. Covey, longtime Cole Hardware manager, will organize deputies and plan future appointments.

Evangelistic party to open revival in New Orleans

Dr J Ernest Thacker evangelist and T B Roddy singer with Mrs Roddy left on the afternoon H and T for New Orleans to open revival meetings at Carrollton Presbyterian church. Thacker praised unity of Bry an pastors and cooperation during the two weeks of work with the Bryan Pastors Association.

Mrs Mary Anzello Buried In Bryan

Mrs Mary Anzello 69 died at home four miles northeast of Bryan Monday evening. She was an Italian native who had lived in Brazos county 24 years and is survived by her husband and son Sam Anzello. Funeral services were held at the family home and St Anthony's church with burial at Bryan Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers included Sam Carabo Mike De Puma B C Cash Joe Salvato U M Otea Luke Restevo.

Attorney General Named by Coolidge

Harlan Fiske Stone of New York, former dean of Columbia Law School, was selected by President Coolidge as attorney general. A New Hampshire native and Amherst graduate, Stone is 51 years old.

Net Container Law Declared Constitutional Challenge

The Texas net container law requiring net weight labeling and penalties for short weight was ruled unconstitutional by the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin. The decision came in the appeal of A C Overt of Grayson county manager of the Diamond Mill and Elevator Company, who faced prosecution for selling sack flour alleged under weight.

McPhee in Jail on Forgery Charge Over Stolen Check

McPhee is jailed in Bryan on forgery charges after cashing a check made out to Mac McPhee and signed F E Shelton at the Coulter Co store. Police traced him to Navasota, then back to Bryan. This marks his third known check with Shelton's name.

Illness Strikes Mrs Powers Near Hearne Road

Mrs. Ben Powers, living on Hearne road about a mile from town, is reported quite ill with la grippe. She recently returned from a visit to her sister Mrs. Patterson in San Antonio. Mrs. Patterson has two young daughters recovering from pneumonia.

Four Die in Michigan Fire Plainfield Blaze

A Michigan fire killed four people and injured six others with property loss around a quarter of a million dollars. Local responders battled the blaze at the Plainfield site, and investigators began checking for a cause.

Four persons are dead six injured and several missing after a blaze at the Livingston Hotel in Grand Rapids Michigan on the night of April 2.
