Severe Storm Damages Galveston and Claims Lives
A cyclonic storm struck Galveston early Wednesday causing about 200000 dollars in damage to business and residence districts. The body of Elizabeth Naudscher was recovered under her wrecked home. Pier 27 grain elevator conveyors collapsed and Mallory docks suffered major loss. Pier 23 24 sheds half demolished. Strand and Rock Island structures damaged with total losses around 27000. About thirty West End homes destroyed. Winds NE at eighty mph for minutes. wires down and streetcar service halted.

Houston Hit Hard by Torrential Rain and Floods
In Houston on October 30, furious storms knocked out telephone service with about 400 pairs of cables down. Embankments along White Oak bayou and a major ditch on Elgin Avenue collapsed, halting traffic and cutting power to the city. Westbound trains ran five hours late as crews rushed to repair flood damage between Houston and Galveston.

Mrs. John Hopkins of Kingston Missouri lies in critical state after alleged attacks by her husband in Lawton Oklahoma. Eyewitnesses say she was blinded by carbolic acid injections and her mouth throat and stomach were burned. She suffered head blows with a hatchet and is hospitalized under guard as enraged citizens rally outside the county jail where Hopkins is held.
