Hicks Resigns Amid Impeachment Charges

In Shreveport on October 27 Governor Blanchard received formal resignation from City Judge Hicks. He denied guilt but chose to resign after a long trial process. Three years remained in his term. The resignation halts what had been a highly charged impeachment case with counts of malfeasance nonfeasance embezzlement extortion incompetency intoxication and unbecoming conduct.

Subway Surpasses Hopes With Nickel Fare Surplus Record

New York reports 106 million subway riders since opening on Thursday one year ago. Each paid a nickel, meeting riders' hopes of Harlem access in fifteen minutes. Maddox Wins Libel Suit Against Houston Chronicle

Frank M. Maddox won a libel verdict in Austin against the Houston Chronicle Publishing Co. for 2000 in damages 31000 exemplary and 1000 actual. The suit claimed the paper libeled him by alleging he traveled to Mexico during the Austin bogus bond issue discovery. An appeal is expected. The trial was before Judge Brooks of the Twenty-sixth district court.
