President Roosevelt Arrives in Argenta Arkansas with Blue and Gray Escort

President Roosevelt and party reached Argenta amid rain threat and large crowds. A Civil War veterans escort of twenty four, twelve Union and twelve Confederate, led by honored citizens, preceded the president to Fort Roots and later into Little Rock. The day featured a warm reception, Fort Roots inspection, and a well received address at City Park.

Hulen Honored on Interstate Guard Executive Committee

Austin October 25 Adjutant General Hulen received a telegram from General Dick U S senator and author of the Dick bill naming him to the executive committee of the Interstate National Guard association. The honor was noted as a high distinction. District Attorney Moore filed suit in the Twenty sixth district court against a Beaumont oil company for taxes and penalties under the Kennedy bill totaling about 30000 dollars. The suit lacked attorney general approval. Southwestern Telegraph and Telephone company paid its Kennedy bill taxes totaling 9560 dollars for the quarter ended September 30 with 5881 dollars in cash and credits for prior law. Gross receipts for the quarter were 588573 dollars. The company did not protest. Chairman Storey of the railroad commission said the panel plans to pursue other roads in the state for late passenger trains. An order will follow after the hearing, as with the International and Great Northern.

Miraculous Escape Turns Fatal Electric Shock

In Tyler Texas on October 25 a white man touched a fallen telephone wire charged with 1050 volts. Ed James, a Black man, touched the wire to save him and absorbed most of the charge, dying in the effort. Anele Beall, another white man, grabbed James but was knocked down yet not seriously hurt.

Stabbed to death deputy marshal in Mount Calm incident

Mount Calm Texas October 25 Deputy City Marshal Calloway was stabbed to death while attempting to arrest Harmon Horne and Jake Early. Horne escaped while Early was jailed. Calloway left a wife and three children.

Boy McCloskey Dies of Hydrophobia in Paris Texas

In Paris Texas on October 25 a boy named McCloskey died after eight months of hydrophobia following a mad dog bite. He suffered convulsions could not eat or drink and experienced total numbness on one side of his body until death.

Two clashes erupted Wednesday near the municipal buildings and Pushinki monument as troops faced demonstrators. Police dispersed protesting students and school strike meetings with whips as casualties mounted from volleys and injuries among many students and others.
