Admirals Sampson and Schley Nominated for Promotion
Washington reports President McKinley plans to send to the Senate the nominations of Rear Admirals Sampson and Schley along with other officers for advancement in recognition of gallant action in the war with Spain. The plan would boost Sampson six numbers and Schley four, affecting several senior admirals. Kentuckians and Schley supporters may oppose confirmation. Secretary Long aims to avoid controversy while pursuing the nominations.
