Refusal to ratify Alaskan boundary award signed near end
Engrossed copy of the Alaska award was signed at 2 10 pm as Canadian commissioners refused to sign. The boundary favors the United States by granting land from the coast to a complete land barrier from Portland canal to Mount St Elias. Canadian delegates called the decision not judicial and vowed to withdraw. The dispute centers on Portland channel entrances and Wales and Pearse islands, with Canada losing strategic value.
