Gates Discharged In A Steel Company Case

In New York on May 10 Magistrate Zeller dismissed the complaint against J. W. Gates chairman of the board of American Steel and Wire company and discharged the defendant. In Marion Indiana also May 10 an attempted assassination targeted Chief of Police Bert White as he arrested rookman Pod Barnes alias Huntington White alias George Davis alias Washington Whitney. Barnes resisted then fled as the shot went wide. Barnes is described as a dangerous figure with a photo in the rogue’s gallery and has been linked to several major schemes in various cities.
