In Roanoke Va on May 5 Mrs Meeks of Elliston was assaulted by a Black man who asked for food. She sheltered her infant before the assailant struck with a club rendering her unconscious. A mob formed and hunted the suspect amid lynching threats.
Judge James B. Wells of Brownsville is in Austin with the attorney general to pursue the state against Jose Gallardo to recover 9,000 acres of Hidalgo county land.
Brazos County Democratic Executive Committee met at the courthouse with County Chairman Jac. K. Parker presiding. J. R. Astin named district delegate prospect. convention elected J. R. Astin as chairman, Frank Clarke secretary, and formed committees on resolutions and delegates for state and Denver conventions.
Beaumont May 5 The Jefferson county convention declared undoubted support for Senator Bailey and instructed for Hon. W. J. Bryan as first choice for president with Bailey as second choice. It also endorsed Colonel R. M. Johnson for re election as national committeeman.
