Home From Cuba Bryan Boy Hile Campbell Returns From Immune Service
Hile Campbell, sent home after fourteen months with Hood's immune corps on garrison duty in Cuba, enlisted at Galveston and sailed from New Orleans for Santiago. The regiment landed and left Cuba, serving at up to twenty locations under Gen. Leonard Wood and aiding Cuban supplies. Hile was wounded in a skirmish near Jibara, receiving a flesh wound to the right side, still being treated. The unit, nicknamed the boy regiment, helped restore order in Santiago province and even raised a Spanish gun boat now serving Gen. Wood.

Miles Pressed for Large Reinforcements to Philippines
Major General Miles urges sending substantial reinforcements to General Otis in the Philippines amid debate over troop levels. He backs a plan for 10 regiments totaling about 15,700 men and notes other islands require troops, with estimates ranging up to 65,000 or 80,000 for Luzon and surrounding areas. The president and Otis remain cautious about expanding volunteers.
