Cuba considers tariff raise and loan to aid sugar and cattle
President Palma and his cabinet propose a 3.5 million dollar plan to aid sugar growers and cattle breeders in Cuba. The scheme includes a 50 cent per 25 pounds loan to sugar planters repayable in February and March, a premium of 5 per cow imported up to 100000, duty-free cattle, and higher duties on several imports to fund the measures. An internal bond loan would back the program to stabilize the industry and curb idle workers.
