Five Negroes Executed in Scriven County Mob Case
In Sylvania Georgia on June 14 five men Arnold Augustus Andrew Davis Richard Sanders William Madson and Sam Baldwin all black were hanged in Scriven county jail yard for the murder of Milton Sears tied to the Knights of the Archer gang led by Andrew McKinney. The group terrorized local blacks for years and other leaders escaped. A writer in Augusta warned Governor Candler of a potential assassination if the execution occurred.
