Local notes report Madisonville forming a business league, road and water improvements, and plans for a big railroad celebration with exhibits and premiums. Other items mention oil prospectors visiting from Beaumont and Madisonville’s ad promotion ideas for the fair, plus land and law notes. A new land-use law tightens trespassing and fishing rules after June 30 with fines from ten to one hundred dollars.
Grimes County votes favor prohibition with Roans Prairie Iola Keith Red Top Bedias Appolonia Navasota Courtney Anderson Yarbo-To Plantersville showing pro leads. Totals yield a 150 vote pro majority with two boxes pending. Fannin County also goes dry with reported 17865 majority. J. Allen Myers, Hot Kutter, advertises quart jars and half gallon jars with Mason tops.
The Bryan Eagle launches a voting contest offering two round trip first class tickets to Boulder Colorado and a side trip to Pike’s Peak or Cripple Creek. Votes accrue from coupon purchases at local merchants and subscriptions, with results announced weekly and a countdown to July 23. Two Colorado excursion correspondents are to be chosen, travel paid by the Eagle.
The statement by Jno A More Jr W C Fountain Eugene Edge and Geo A Adams as judges confirms the reading of votes cast since the last count in the contest. Names listed include A P Anderson Mrs Lamar Bethea Hunter Elma Harbers Dollie Carr Arrie Cole and May Burtis and others as part of the certified tally.

The Anti Cigarette League met at the Baptist church on June 7 1903 with Mr Hunter as superintendent opening the session with song and prayer. John A Moore spoke on practical topics and Julius Zimmerman promised to lead today’s exercises as Allen Academy graduate. Homer WallaceSecretary invites all friends to attend and support the league while a note on tinware guarantees repairs for leaks.
