New York May 31 A $10 000 reward is offered for a packet of letters stolen from a private safe in a wealthy New York family. Jewelry worth 360 000 and stock certificates were taken. detectives suspect the son, a 23 year old university graduate, forged by a hidden family skeleton to fund a society engagement.
Reports from Vice Admiral Togo tally twenty two Russian vessels sunk or captured including battleships and cruisers. Almaz witnesses sinking of two Japanese battleships while two Japanese cruisers appeared to sink in fog. Rumors place Vice Admiral Rojestvensky wounded or captured aboard Kniaz Souvaroff as battleships Dmitri Donskoi and others go down.
Oklahoma City officials and chamber of commerce members reached a plan to create a terminal association with capital of 500000 to serve the Denver Enid and Gulf railroad and future roads. The city will contribute 40000 to 60000 for right of way and terminal facilities and bonds of about 200000 will fund construction and land purchases. Construction ready in about a month with five miles of terminals planned.
Ambassador Meyer reports from St. Petersburg that the Russian ship Almaz has arrived at Vladivostok. The captain says Kniaz Souvaroff sank and Rosestvensky was wounded but safely taken aboard the torpedo boat Bunny. No further word yet.
The state department received a Tokyo cablegram dated Wednesday reporting that Rojestvensky's skull is fractured and requires an operation. It states the Japanese losses to date include three torpedo boats sunk three officers killed and about 200 men killed or disabled.
Victoria B C May 31 Advices via the Empress of Japan report German masters of colliers supplying Rojestvensky's fleet at Kangkohe Bay. They say only one or two Russian ships showed the discipline expected on a warship. Officers seem fine men but the latter appear disinclined to work.
Nagasaki reports that Captain, chief engineer and two seamen of the British steamer Oldhamia arrived at Sa sebo after the vessel, en route from Hongkong to Japan, was captured by a Russian steamer on May 27. Initial reports said an American ship had been seized.
A Toklo dispatch reports the Kamtchatka sinking after a heavy exchange in the Straits of Korea. Sixty sailors evacuated in boats as a fatal explosion doomed the ship, while its captain and seven officers died. Japanese and Russian losses mount as battleships and cruisers go down.
London May 31 The St Petersburg correspondent of the Standard reports Mme Rojestvensky has a telegram from Vladivostok signed by her husband, saying the commander arrived aboard the cruiser Almaz and was severely wounded in the neck back and abdomen.
London May 31 The Tokio correspondent of the Daily Express reports the cruiser Cromobol of the Vladivostok squadron with about 800 men aboard sailed from Vladivostok to join Rozestvenskys fleet and struck a Japanese mine, sinking with all hands.
Tokio May 31 reports Admiral Togo wired Admiral Yamamoto that the main forces of the Russian Second and Third fleets are nearly annihilated and that assurances can be given.
Muskogee May 31 The Gulf Com press company has closed a deal for a substantial business arrangement. The announcement signals a major step for regional media, with details described as forthcoming from company officials.
The Muskogee compress, idle for three years, will receive a $10,000 upgrade to improve the plant. It will be ready for operation by September 1. New warehouses will be built and the compress capacity increased.
Anadarko Oklahoma remains cut off after the Canadian bridge on the Frisco line between Enid Hobart and Anadarko failed. Trains had previously reached Anadarko via that route until today and the town now faces isolation until repairs.
Sealed bids for 1800 cards of merchantable wood will be received at the President's office of the A M College until 10 o'clock on Wednesday June 14 1905. Bids must include a 250 certified check to secure performance. The college reserves the right to reject any or all bids. David F Houston President.
