A premature explosion at Pennsylvania railroad improvements near New Cumberland, across the Susquehanna from the May wreck, killed eight workers of P. S. Kerbaugh & Co. and injured two others. Victims include James Wiseman Buffalo Arthur Green Harrisburg Frank Millah an Italian and a Slav with others identified only by numbers. Injured include William Reed and William Miller. Coroner's jury cites unknown cause with no contractor blame.

Arthur Neely, a Chicago native, leaped to his death on East Forty-fourth Street after crying for help from a window. His brother, publisher F Tennyson Neely, watched from a bay window roof as rescue attempts failed. Neely leaves three children. their mother died years ago in a railroad wreck.
