Opposition 70 A Large Army Showdown in House

Washington Jan 28 opposition to the army reorganization bill grows strong. Hull proposes amendments to reduce enlisted to about 60 000 and give the president discretion to raise to 100 000 if needed. The plan would cut infantry to 60 per company and cavalry to 60 per troop, leaving the structure intact while shrinking total manpower. The debate remains heated as Republicans push to stall and seek a smaller force while preserving leadership powers.
