In Mazatlan mountains near La Colorada Mexico General Torres with about 400 troops killed a score of Yaquis and captured 162 prisoners after two days of fighting. About 200 warriors were surrounded. 106 escaped as reinforcements arrived.
Warsaw February 23 no trains ran in either direction on the Vienna line as strikers plugged water gauges and derailed cars. The management tried to use soldiers as firemen but amateur crews ruined four locomotives. Strikers demand eight hours daily and higher pay. directors offered nine hours and higher wages for some workers. A manifesto says the strike shows solidarity with other trades amid the labor movement. Government alcohol monopoly staff also walked out.
Paroled Russian officers claim they are moving from Shanghai to Sinmintin to Mukden by cart at night to evade bandits. Russian agents near Niuchwang stay in touch with locals, and foreign residents are suspected of aiding the first raid. The Japanese administration prepares to curb further information leakage.
The city of St. Petersburg buzzes with rumors of a major battle near Mukden, but the war office offers no confirmation. Dispatches and censoring suggest imminent large operations with Japanese activity on both flanks and a railroad raid by Japanese and Chinese bandits. Meanwhile the Russian Pacific squadron under Rear Admiral Nebogatov departed Skagen Bay heading west.

Rev Dr J A Lefevre longtime Presbyterian pastor and former moderator of the US general synod died at 75 in Baltimore. He was father to Arthur Lefevre former Texas schools official and Albert Lefevre philosophy professor Tulane. In Oklahoma City Charles Cook escaped county jail by cutting a roof hole after being arrested for theft of $600 in clothing from Scoresby Tailoring.
Mrs. Carry Nation lecturing to men on cigarettes at South McAlester depot, Oklahoma Territory, narrowly escaped when the train she rode began to move. She grasped a car bar with both hands and was swung between cars before a newsman pulled her clear and she was unhurt.
