Paris Feb 17 Felix Faure president of the French republic died at 10 last night after a three hour illness. He suffered heart weakness and a message to premier Dupuy announced the illness at 6:30. Flags at half mast, crowds gathered, and the cabinet arrived. Faure, born 1841, was a shipowner and longtime public official who became president in 1895. The national assembly will elect his successor. Faure’s body lay in state and an obituary from various papers praised his character while noting political reactions.
