Wintery days ease yet sickness haunts Harvey news
The Harvey column notes persistent winter weather moderating, crops idle, and farm labor limited. Sickness runs through the community with La Grippe and general ailments delaying activity. Local notes mention Bethel services, Miss Sunshine Cole visiting, Lula Pate and Prof McDonald ill, and hope for brighter days as news remains scarce.

Letters From Corporal Campbell From Holguin Cuba
The Eagle reporter saw two letters from Corporal W. H. Campbell of Company F Hood's immune regiment now in Holguin Cuba. The first letter dated Jan 12 describes the camp between two mountains near a mining shaft and a dull Holguin with 600 Cubans in hospital. The second letter dated Jan 28 says the regiment expects to go to the Philippines in about three months. He also sent Hile's appointment as corporal to his sister Mrs George W Higgs of this city.

Senate approves McEnery Philippines resolution
In Washington on February 15 the Senate adopted Mr. McEnery of Louisiana’s resolution on Philippine policy by a 26 to 22 vote after three hours of debate. Several present Democrats abstained. An amendment by Democrat Bacon failed on a 29 to 29 tie with Vice President Hobart casting the deciding vote against it. The session discussed Philippine self-government and future U.S. aims in the islands. The Nicaragua canal rider battle continued in the House with Cannon upholding procedural points against amending the sundry civil appropriation bill. The fight centered on whether to attach the canal bill to the sundry bill and whether the chair would be overruled. A fierce parliamentary contest persisted as lawmakers debated the canal’s fate. In executive session, the Senate confirmed Edward R. Meek as district judge for the northern district of Texas.
