Senate OKs joint statehood bill for Oklahoma and Indian Territory

After a nine hour session the senate passed the joint statehood bill making Oklahoma and Indian Territory one state and New Mexico another while Arizona was removed. Amendments debated covered liquor prohibitions, separate Arizona vote and land grants for Oklahoma institutions. Public demonstrations erupted in both territories. Henry Powers, former New Orleans Baseball club owner, died suddenly in New Orleans. Tulsa to host Elks lodge organization.

Spirited Away: Oil Operator O Neil Escapes Jail by Sheriff

The arrest of John J. O'Neil, a wealthy oil operator, sparked a sensational escape after Sheriff Holder forcibly removed him from Ohio custody. Writ service halted, revolver drawn, and O'Neil allegedly beaten as he was driven into the woods. Governor Lanham later freed him in Little Rock amid habeas corpus questions.

Carter Hanged for Murder in Arkansas

John Carter, a negro, was hanged in Marianna Arkansas for the December 2 1903 murder of James Woods a sewing machine agent. On the scaffold were Sheriff Ford three deputies four physicians and two negro ministers. Carter confessed and warned negroes from gambling. Vinita reports Senator Charles L Sanders of Tahlequah Oklahoma dead at Hot Springs Arkansas. Sanders served in the Cherokee Senate from Tahlequah and held other offices.

News in brief reports wood selling for seven dollars per cord in San Antonio. Arkansas River is frozen over at Little Rock. Dr. J. W. Gilder, a veteran Beaumont physician, is dead. Livestock suffering is reported across Arkansas. A train wreck near Brewton, Alabama, killed three men. Otto H. Card, a barber, committed suicide in El Paso with carbolic acid.

Fire destroys cotton oil mill in Oklahoma City

A blaze at the Southwestern Cotton Oil Mill in Oklahoma City caused $50,000 in damage. The fire began from friction in a hulling machine in the gin room, and the plant will be rebuilt at once.

Aged Lady Dies After Ice Fall in Denison

Mrs. Neney L. Chappell, an elderly resident of Denison, fell on the ice Tuesday night and died from the injuries she sustained.

Porter Found the Jewels in Hotel Store Room

A casket of Mrs. E. M.Holbrook's jewels from Minneapolis was located in a hotel storeroom, reportedly placed there by a porter. In Chicago, William K. Ackerman, former Illinois Central railway president, died at home from heart disease.
