Cardinal Richard Retires From Paris Palace In Show Of Faith
At Paris on December 18 Cardinal Richard archbishop of Paris voluntarily left his episcopal palace and stayed at Denis Cochin’s residence in Rue de Babylon. About 3,000 Catholics and clergy blocked streets, sang canticles, and cheered as the cardinal was escorted to the carriage amid cries of Long live Plus and Long live the cardinal. The procession to Cochin’s home, a mile away, drew no counter demonstrations and clericals later attended a benediction at St. Xavier.
