Defender Wins After Sixteen Years in Central Case
New York December nine. After sixteen years in court the case of MacArdell against Alcott was settled by the court of appeals. The dispute arose from the 1887 reorganization of the Houston and Texas Central railroad. Stockholders valued shares at 95 cents before a sharp drop, and in 1891 MacArdell, then deceased, had sought to recover Texas lands later held by Frederick P. Alcott in trust for stockholders of the reorganized railroad. The decision favors the defense.
