Frederick Oklahoma April 11 President Roosevelt and about fifteen men with forty dogs hunted wolves near camp. The chase netted three wolves before dinner and a mule deer yearling was dressed for the camp. Roosevelt impressed cowboys by drinking from a buffalo wallow in cowboy fashion.
Tokio March 11. Japan plans a large scale expansion of its Manchurian army with an expedition from military bodies. Estimated 1 million soldiers by autumn, 700000 in fighting units. Japanese artillery expected to surpass Russian in both quality and numbers. Railway upgrades to support offensives toward Harbin and actions east of the city.
The Roosevelt party moves toward Johnson ranch near Newcastle as guides Borah and Goff lead a pack train of about 100 horses and 60 dogs. A Newcastle reception includes a proposed parade with Roosevelt mounted to view by residents.
Twenty or more passengers were injured when the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Chicago express No 8 collided with San Francisco limited No 4 at Kinsley Kansas at 10 PM. The rear Pullman sleeper and chairs were wrecked and burned. The engineer on No 4 was unharmed. the fireman and a porter on No 8 were hurt. Cause cited: rear brakeman failed to flag No 4.
Excitement mounts at Shay, six miles southeast of Kingston, as about thirty Snake Indians gather in the area. Farmers seek firearms and ammunition as the group threatens to kill Indians who sold lands and to burn property.
James Ratcliffe a British subject and manager of the Posenauskis Cotton mill was stabbed while returning from a mass for the end of the strike. His assailant fled. Two workmen were found stabbed to death on Monday. They are believed to be non-strikers and victimized by strikers.
Washington April 11 minister Griscom cabled the state department that Kelung on Formosa has been closed to foreign ships until further notice. The closing is believed to indicate the port will be used by Admiral Togo as a base for his fleet.
A Singapore telegram says four supposed colliers passed east April 10 and are viewed as ahead of sixteen Hamburg-American line steamers to support the Russian Second Pacific squadron. The Hague reports the Dutch East Indian squadron ordered to Anambas island to monitor the anchored Russian fleet and ensure neutrality.
Lawton April 11 President leaped from his horse to dispatch a huge rattler with a quirt during a Sunday trip across the reservation. The party, guided by Bill Sie, rode to the cow camp of Waggoner and Burnett where dinner was taken.
Eben ezer Runyan was shot and killed during an initiation ceremony of the Knights of Pythias at Fetezenthal Arkansas. Officer Charles Filler officiated when a revolver loaded with unknown cartridges fired, striking Runyan in the brain and causing instant death. The lodge dispersed in consternation.
Camillo Sarono a nineteen year old youth, was found fatally wounded in his Brooklyn home after a man broke through a rear window and cut his throat. He died shortly after the discovery as police sought Paul Cat lino, his employer.
An April 11 fire in Huntington West Virginia started by lightning damaged Lade Bros. large warehouse and spread to the United States Stozie company building. Three other structures were consumed in the blaze with damage estimated at 200000 dollars.
In Vicksburg Mississippi during a heavy thunder storm William Alverson aged twenty two was instantly killed by lightning. The horse he was riding also died in the strike.
