Experiment Station Tests Cottonseed Hulls for Beef Fattening
The Texas experiment station, led by Director B. Youngblood and J. C. Ray, conducted a field test near Clarendon comparing cottonseed hulls with hulls and ensilage for fattening cattle under farm conditions. Forty head of mixed breed steers, average 904 pounds, were fed for 119 days from December to April with rations including cottonseed meal and hulls. Results showed variable profit per steer with Lot 1 earning $6.75 to $6.94 per head and Lot 2 about $24.94, highlighting practical value though not conclusive until further experiments.
