Reports from Paris and Associated Press indicate Fort Vaux has fallen as German forces advance. The French garrison reportedly abandoned the fort, with ongoing fighting around the right and left trenches and the site now under German control.
The second day of the Republican National Convention opened in a downpour. The meeting started at 11 22 with a temporary organization made permanent. Roosevelt signaled willingness to address the convention and the platform debates began with suffrage and prohibition planks facing resistance.
Wilson today practically completed the draft of the platform to be submitted to the democratic national convention. One plank seeks to praise the administration for guarding the home and national interests while another likely plank calls for avoiding entangling alliances and opposing rapid intervention in border rulings.
