CCRMA updates plans for 1-69 corridors and Brownsville links
The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority outlined fiscal year 2015 projects at a September 10 Cameron County Commissioners Court meeting. Highlights include upgrading 1-69C and 1-69F to interstate quality from Brownsville to Laredo, a second causeway to South Padre Island, improved access between 1-69E and the Port of Brownsville, and removing 18 wheelers from International Boulevard. The farthest along project is SH 550, a tollway linking the port to SH 48 and I-69E, with Phase 1 completed in 2011 and the direct connector to I-69E opened in June. Two gaps remain in SH 550, with the smallest section near Old Alice Road to Paredes Line Road set to start in spring, and the gap between Line Road and Dr Hugh Emerson Road has no start date yet. The update also notes FM 803 linking to I-69E at Rancho Viejo to spur eastward residential development.
