Drury College Opens Sixty Five Years Ago
Springfield Missouri, the oasis of the Ozarks, saw the Congregational college plan mature with Drury College opening September 25 1873. The effort began in 1872, led by Rev J H Harwood, with Dr N J Morrison funding and the gift from Samuel F Drury in memory of Fletcher Drury. The early year enrollment reached 126, faculty grew, and the 40 acre campus expanded with notable scientific and literary collections. Mr and Mrs Emmett Williams of Chicago visited relatives here Monday.
