A closing message from Harry A. Havens of Amboy Company 16 A E F states he is in good spirits and well. He acknowledges past experiences and happenings but believes further discussion would not help, signing as his brother and with military unit details.
Walter D Long of Battery C 56 Artillery CA C US Ex Force writes from France in August 1918. He notes earning a service stripe after six months, describes heavy field artillery service and crop conditions in France, and asks about a friend Ray Browning. He plans to return to the United States after defeating Wilhelm.

Dear Editor I write to say I am deployed for overseas service leaving Friday and have been transferred back to ship Teal after initial assignment on Turkey. Teal is 287 feet, crew 78, speed 22 knots with three decks and 1200 tons. We expect to go to New York for rifle practice before sailing, then cross oceans. I had a pleasant furlough in New York and New Jersey and will miss mail while at sea. Your friend Ola F Knofong U S 8 Teal.

Ray Johnson married Mrs Hinda Alexander of near Linneus at Laredo on Saturday August 17 at 8 o clock by Rev J W Drunkard. The couple kept the nuptials secret for a few days. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs John Kirby. the groom, son of the late Mr and Mrs George Johnson near the Johnson farm northwest of town. The Leader Record extends congratulations and best wishes.
