90th Infantry Division Arrives in France in June

The 90th Infantry Division landed in France on June 7 and entered combat June 10. It fought through towns including Pont L Abbe Amfreville and Garvesville, defending the southern flank with the 82nd Airborne and aiding Cherbourg efforts. The unit captured Forest of Mont Castro Hill 122 after four days of heavy, min-ed combat.

Navy graduate from Norman center promotes to petty officer

Rex Bundies son of Mr and Mrs Roy Bundies graduated recently from the Naval Air Technical Center in Norman Oklahoma. He studied aviation specialty and his recruit training aptitude tests show he is best suited for the field and he is now eligible for a petty officer rate. He awaits further duty orders to sea or to a Naval base.

William H Peters Dies at Garnet Kansas 1944

William H Peters aged 88 died August 12 1944 at a Garnet Kansas hospital after a short illness. He was born May 16 1856 near Findlay Ohio and lived in Illinois Missouri before moving to Garnet. Survived by two children Maurice Peters and Mrs Hettie Boley and ten grandchildren. Funeral held August 14 beside wife who died 1940.

Langdon Receives Third Oak Leaf Cluster for Air Medal

Eighth Air Force Liberator crewman T/Sgt. Ernest Langdon Jr. of Cora Missouri earns a third Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for meritorious aerial missions over occupied Europe. Colonel Jacob J. Brogger presented the award at an England base as Langdon and his squadron, led by Major Myers B. Cather, supported bombing missions over Berlin Brunswick and other targets. Langdon joined the service in 1942 and is a Purdin High School graduate, son of Mr and Mrs E C Langdon of Brookfield Missouri.

Shells Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary in Danville

Mr and Mrs Cliffred B Shell hosted more than 125 friends at 1309 Franklin on Wednesday evening to mark their silver wedding anniversary. A musical program featured pupils and guests including former pupil Janet John son Tillinghast and Mrs Shell herself, a noted soprano. The decor centered on silver and white with a refined refreshment display. Mrs Shell, a longtime voice teacher, supports church and civic causes in Danville while Mr Shell serves as chief storekeeper at the Veterans Facility and participates in local bands and veterans groups.
