Obituary of Joseph D Lay in Howard County
Joseph D Lay born March 27 1841 in Howard County moved with his parents to a Lin neus area farm in 1862 and later owned a farm near Jenkins school. He married Nancy Godsey and had nine children four surviving, including Mrs Grant Lantz Mrs E L Baker James Lay Charley Lay Lon Lay Samuel Lay and Barney Lay. He died after being found near a well two hundred yards away with coroner Dr Ingram attributing death to an incident at Jenkins Cemetery the same date as his wife’s passing.

An enthusiastic crowd and a 26 venture Anti Single Tax organization led an anti tax rally at Praia Lite Elementary Schoolhouse last Thursday night. The Enterprise township committee led by C I Grice and P P Melton oversaw proceedings with G A Hudson of Brookfield delivering a strong address. The Fairview chapter met September 26 1912 with W H Tucker elected chairman Ola F Creason secretary and J N Wilson speaking against the tax amendment. A pledge to oppose the amendment and to oppose any public official backing it was announced.
