The Forty-Ninth General Assembly formed the missioners to secure federal aid for Missouri roads. The Highway Department began in March 1917 and expanded across boards, counties, and districts. The forthcoming Board of Highway Commissioners report will detail more than one hundred originated projects and progress despite abnormal conditions, confirming use of available federal funds and submitted plans to the U S Department of Public.
The report details multiple road projects approved or pending in Missouri. Federal funding amounts include 150700 with 73850 government share for certain plans, plus 141669 with 70334 government share, and 553932 with 138483 government share. Overall, more than 600000 in Federal Aid will be available next year, with a total Missouri allotment of 2500000 expected within five years.
Cliff Peterson was appointed to the office of police judge and has qualified. He held a court session since. The town warns that residents will face Linneus jail if they fail to comply with payment demands.
Dora Belle Marrs born August 18 1879 in Sullivan county Missouri died November 21 1918 at age 39 with husband Wm O Hayes and five children Vera Van Gayle Maurine and Lucile. She leaves parents siblings and many relatives and was active in Mt Zion Christian church. Funeral at home led by Rev Reed with Prairie Chapel choir and burial at Mt Olive cemetery.
A special Thanksgiving and rejoicing service will be held at the Baptist Church next Sunday night at 7 o'clock. The choir will present a patriotic and devotional program and the pastor will speak on "The War And Its Conclusion" inviting Browning residents and especially the mayor to attend.
The Browning community invites soldiers sailors veterans and families to a Thanksgiving service next Sunday night to honor Allied victory and pray for lasting peace. Services begin 11 am with a sermon titled A Life Investment and Sunday School at 10 am. Choir practice is scheduled for Saturday at 7 30. Fred White P C.
C E Rinehart and J W Garrett closed a deal making Garrett the owner of 40 acres southeast of town. The improved land includes a cement block house and barn, valued at $130 per acre. Garrett traded his Line street residence and moved in Saturday. he plans to continue operating his blacksmith shop, commuting from home.
Alvan Oren Neely born Sept 18 1891 Sullivan County Missouri died in action in France Oct 10 1918. He served in Company M 129th Infantry Division 33 and trained at Camp Taylor before leaving for France May 23 1918. Memorial services were held at M E C S with Rev J F Patton in attendance.
The Farm Bureau is the official body representing county farming, federated with the U S Department of Agriculture and University of Missouri Extension to support and extend agricultural agent work across all rural communities. It is a county wide working organization controlled by progressive farmers uniting the rural community for common interests.

From St Nazaire France October 26 1918 a soldier writes home about new recruits bringing company strength to 78, awaiting transfer to the Motor Transportation Corps and possible front lines, notes letters and home paper arrival, saving money, meeting friends, a shave from a German prisoner, and plans to ride in an airplane once stationed near aviation units. He mentions weather, war news, and humorous misadventures with a Packard ignition.
