The Old Maids Association drew a full house with a warm, crowded theatre and a stage show featuring Minta Clover and Etunia Pickles. Despite poor visibility and heat, the crowd appreciated the recitations and the May Pole drill, with praise for Mr Colson's solo performance.
Rappai & Co reports the cattle market unchanged, with receipts around 33 000 hogs daily, opening strong above Friday’s quotes. Prices shown include fancy steers 6.00 to 6.75, choice feeders 4.90 to 5.50, hogs 5.40 to 5.60 for heavy shipping, and mixed lots from 4.75 to 5.55 for various grades.
A Dakota farmer speaks on big farm operations and mortgage woes describing vast plowing patterns and the strain on families. He recalls a man mortgaged land split across counties and a family driven to grief while workers bid farewell and move to distant tasks across the farm.
The register at the Angelus records the marriage of Harry Bailey of El Paso to Mrs. Hattie Holding this week in Missouri. Bailey, a prominent local businessman with mining and ranch interests, appears as half owner of the Angelus lodging, and plans a residence here with his bride.

The state G A R Woman's Relief Corps and Sons of Veterans held their annual encampment in Brookfield with about one thousand members present. Notable moments included welcomes by Sépha L Burns and Judge Charles G Burton of Nevada Missouri, and remarks by Post Commander in Chief Eli Terrance of Minneapolis. Delegates urged Burton's election as Commander in Chief at the Denver encampment. Local officials were noted as the city marshal Reed recovering from neuralgia and A N Sayers patrolling for trouble.
Johann Hoch, a self confessed bigamist linked to numerous marriages, was found guilty of murder in Judge Kersten's court and death sentence recommended. The case centers on Hoch's late wife Marie Welcker Hoch whose illness and death led to a new alliance and a seeker's pursuit by police. Hoch was captured in New York after fleeing Chicago and faced multiple supposed wives during trial.
City Marshal Reed received a message from Cora last Thursday about a boy who jumped a board bill and fled on a southbound train. He boarded the train, captured the boy, and collected the amount. A recent wine storm damaged homes and property in Sumner with trees uprooted and sheds destroyed.
The Brownie Savings Bank Jenkins and Gibson families and others from Brownville travel to Kansas City for the Bankers Convention. Also mention of Summers drilling a 200 foot prospecting hole on Ex-Sheriff Barton’s farm near Laclede with a 22 inch coal vein at 20 feet and possible thicker vein deeper.
The Linneus Board of Education renewed Supt John H Andrews tenure as head of Linneus schools. He has led the district for three years improving student work from two-year levels to high standards. The state examiner commended Linneus High School, noting excellent condition and quality comparable to larger towns. Andrews' assistants were re elected.
Mrs Kt M Johnson and daughter extend thanks to friends and neighbors for kindness and assistance during the illness and death of their husband and father.
Bud Jones had a horse mixup and limped home second best. Miss Ray Barker, Browning High School assistant, has been ill for weeks. J J Van Fossen of Humphreys, bank vice president, was in town. The Leaver Recorp will visit. C H Becker, Gem City Business College student, returned home to Browning. Prof L Ke Ryals buys the Browning Leaver Recorp to improve Linn county paper. Edna Cotter, Haseville teacher, reports good progress. T B Ball and C W Batley passed through Browning from Jun[e]au[s] after jury service. J Dade Johnson attended G A R Encampment in Brookfield as Unionville delegate. B F Guthrie of Milan Republican praised in Green City Press. Mrs C S Wood of New London, visiting Judge Frantx Wood, cashier of Winigan Bank, returned home. Walter Prather shipped a ten HP engine for silo work. unloading accident damaged shaft on depot platform.
