P C Mullins’s widowhood years, Civil War memories, and 87th birthday observance are noted by mournful local readers. Aunt Priss, a longtime resident, cared for family, supported church and Sunday school, and inspired neighbors with her resilience and warmth.
A fragmented diary records odd events including a fire scare in a back room at Dry leaners place and Pa being pressed for pants, a neighbor seeing a Sic oanalist claim of neurology complex, suspicion of a missing money, and odd references to an effigy and grave clothes.
The Jolly Janes held a May 3 gathering at Mrs. L. T. Finney’s home with 10 members and 2 visitors. Roll call May Baskett. They sang Star Spanel ed Banner, discussed neighbors, and demonstrated a chick feeder from a prune box. An egg stand stunt followed. Next meeting May 17 at Mrs. Raymond Smith’s home. Reporter.
A girls 4-H sewing club named Merry Maid ens was organized Thursday afternoon April twentieth under County Agent J Robert Halland with twenty five members. Officers elected include Marjorie Crist president Ruby Gooch vice president Dorothy Wilson secretary Wilma McDonald game leader Mildred Pace song leader Lorene Cattey Ivis Simpson Dorothy Wilson program committee and Ada B Kirk club reporter.
A selection of Mother's Day gifts including chairs settees rose trellises flower boxes wall shelves book and china shelves metal waste baskets and freshly painted interiors for kitchen living and bedroom spaces.
An advertising solicitor offered space for an Industrial and Professional Review of Linn County at regular rate with write ups to boost sales. The paper declined the pitch, noting the solicitor then took $42.50 from the city, while the paper avoided aiding the proposition.

Mason Dell and Dorris Fanning surprised friends with a Sunday wedding at Unionville. The bride, daughter of James and Mrs. Fanning, taught in several area schools and will teach this winter at Hamilton. The groom, son of Clay Dell, farms with his father on the Hicks farm. The Leader-Record offers congratulations.
Claude H. Myers Post 274 held a meeting of ex servicemen on Monday night with good attendance. The group unanimously offered aid to the Milan Post for a District Meeting in Milan on Sunday May 14. Milan, aided by Green City and Browning Posts, is expected to draw the largest attendance in this district. Other community topics were discussed with hope for beneficial outcomes.
Browning Missouri May 3 1933 Mrs Mullin writes from her sick bed to Dear Editor sharing her view of the depression. She notes farmers overreaching to buy land during high prices, taking mortgages, and losing farms when land values fell. She recalls numerous neighbors who faced ruin.
Willing Workers Club met May 3 for a half day of crepe paper rose making. Three new members were to be initiated: Mrs. Lou Harris Mrs. Mary Vincent and Mrs. Goldin Head. A kitchen shower was given for Mrs. Reba Nickels and the Reds and Blues divided to boost attendance.
The Adams Wesley class of the M E C S met at Mrs May Alexander's home with eleven members present. Mrs Wicker led devotionals and a lesson on sin noting the Bible mentions the word sin 595 times. the treasurer reported $15.11 in the treasury and plans included vacation Bible school and Sunday services.

Anna Jolley Jolley Lantz born June 16 1849 in Green County Pennsylvania moved to Missouri as a teen. She married Jacob R. Lantz July 28 1875 and had two children Claude B. and Cecil Ross. She died May 7 1933 at age 83 after 41 years on the family farm. Funeral at Hoover cemetery with Rebekah Lodge rites.

Family and friends gathered Sunday for a surprise birthday dinner for Mrs. Lester Stephenson. Relatives arrived with baskets, and at noon a feast was spread for neighbors and kin in the area.
Mrs. Maude Wilson prepares the new Purple Grackle dance pavilion and restaurant for occupancy. Finishing touches complete, opening set for Saturday night May 15. The large commodious pavilion features a modern restaurant and good music by an orchestra. public invited.
Sunday dinner at Mr. and Mrs. Guy Adams featured guests including Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Rolling and daughter Virginia Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Gooch and daughter Patricia Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Duncan and daughter Beverly Miss Ella Keithley and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Dickinson The Duncans and Beverly plan to move to Brookfield after the visit and were the honored guests of the occasion.
Last week brought cold damp conditions hindering grass wheat and oats growth. Farmers plowed in cool weather then rain and sun brightened the weekend. Corn in the ground suffered little damage as moisture moved away and warmth approaches will help corn emerge with warm showers aiding growth.
