Linn County farmers gain leeway in the 1942 Triple A program as a new ruling allows more land to qualify for soil conserving crops. Walter Sensintaffar explains that soybeans, flax, hemp, castor beans, dry peas and tomatoes for canning count toward war crop production. The ruling lets nurse crops count toward conservation up to 40 percent of war crop acreage, widening participation and urging erosion control on level or contour land to meet Missouri’s soybean target of 300,000 acres.

James Newton Brookshier Dies After Illness at 77
James Newton Brookshier, born August 15, 1864 near Brownings Missouri, died March 15, 1942 at 77. He married Isabelle Baskett in 1886 and left three daughters, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He joined Maple Grove Baptist Church in 1912 as a charter member and is survived by his siblings. Funeral at Maple Grove Baptist Church was conducted by Rev. A. T. Rollene with burial in Price cemetery.
