Old Bank Suspended in Missouri Banking History 1877
The National Bank of the State of Missouri in St. Louis was placed in receivership by the U.S. Treasury on June 23 1877 marking the bank’s final collapse after decades as a leading Missouri and Western financial institution. The failure followed fraud, risky loans to officers and directors, and a 1873 capital contraction amid a broad bank panic.
