Mountain Lily Blooms On Missouri Lake Near Linn Creek
On Colonel R G Scotts farm near Linn Creek Camden county a ten acre mountain lake is filled with water lilies whose blooms reach four to seven inches. The floating root growth resembles bananas and the roots and nuts are edible. Known locally as Water Chinquapin or Yonkipin Water, the plant is exhibited at the Missouri Resources Museum in Jefferson City. In 1922 Colonel Scott sought to remove the lilies and Missouri Forestry Association suggested stocking the lake with muskrats to feed on the lily roots and reduce the display.
