A farmer near Old Enterprise reports ninety small new pigs in his barn lot. He says caring for them is a chore at seventy five, but the marching boys must be fed and he is trying to help.

A writer from Cherry Point Alberta dated May 24 1944 sends a fund draft of three dollars to Browning Leader Record Browning Missouri with notes on personal history and familiarity with names along the Alaska Highway project. War Food Administration plans to recruit around 4,000,000 workers in 1944 to harvest a record crop. Youths and women are expected to fill the seasonal labor gap, with local area pooling and inter communal exchanges encouraged. The War Department will reallocate discharged soldiers to food related work after army retirements.
The Salvation Army will collect funds on Saturday June 10 in Browning to support local uplift programs and war aid. Linn County students are enrolled at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College for the summer session in Kirksville Missouri with county officers named. The list of Linn County enrollees includes Clarice Begley Wilma Bagley Dorothy Bourjer Ruth Barron and many others.
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Odom 68 died May 23 1944 at her Tulsa home. Born Linn County Missouri she married twice first to Robert L. Caughron in 1894. Survived by husband George N. Odom two sons three daughters a sister and thirteen grandchildren. Funeral at Bullette Presbyterian Church with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mrs J H Williams Rosa Malinda Breeding was born December 14 1873 near Clay Center Indiana and died May 24 1944 at the home of her daughter in South Gifford Missouri. She was 70 years 5 months 10 days old. She married James H Williams August 9 1892 and had eleven children ten surviving Lewis B Zelpha A Thompson W E R Siles E Sherman T Pvt Thomas Camp Roberts California Mrs George Klatz Albert A Charles E and Pfc Harry L of New Guinea. Twenty seven grandchildren and one brother S R Breeding of Reger Missouri.

Civilian gasoline allotments for 1941 passenger car drivers now total about 43 percent of what they used prewar. The Petroleum Administration for War notes Americans have cut passenger car mileage by roughly 57 percent since peacetime, while English usage fell about 38 percent.

Treasury has issued refunds to about one million 1943 income tax payers. Most of the 18 million eligible will wait months for their refunds. Each refund includes 6 percent annual interest from March 15. Armed forces claims were prioritized. taxpayers need not act unless their address has changed since filing.
Mr and Mrs Chester Schrock hosted a June 4 dinner for their son H D Schrock on a Alaska furlough and Max Schrock who will enter the Navy. A large noon meal brought together relatives and friends including Ruth Lawrence Ann Barnett and others with afternoon callers Harold Cooper and family.

Eugene L. Quigley of the U S Navy has returned from the Southwest Pacific to spend a few days with his parents Mrs John Quigley and other relatives and friends. His visit was a surprise to his parents.

The Red Cross Work Room in the Bailey Maytag building opened Friday afternoon with twenty five ladies attending. Ninety hundred surgical sponges were made across the two meetings held that week. The group meets Monday and Friday at 2 o clock, and all community women are invited to participate.

Proceeds from the first wool shipment have been received and disbursed to Price Hoskins, secretary of the Linn County Sheep and Wool Growers Association. Wool prices for various grades ranged from 50.77 cents per pound for 3/8 staple to 41.26 cents for fine staples, with other grades yielding strong returns.
The I-Go-You-Go Club of Kaifong Grove district gave 15 dollars to the Red Cross in Milan on Saturday June 3. The district ladies earned the funds through their labor and express deep appreciation.
The Office of Price Administration announces that non serial numbered B2 and C2 gas coupons will be invalid after June 1. Holders may surrender unused coupons or adjust their needs, with deadlines June 19 for consumers, June 20 for distributors to deposit coupons, leaving only serially numbered B and C coupons in circulation.
