Governor Crittenden Breaks Up James Gang in Missouri

James gang led by Frank and Jesse James operated across Missouri and surrounding states for nearly two decades. Governor Thomas T. Crittenden launched a rewards driven drive, arrests and surrenders followed, ending with Jesse James killed in 1882 and Frank James surrendering the same year. The program secured $50,000 in private rewards and paid $20,000 in rewards without state funds, restoring commerce and law and order on the frontier.
