Miss Bennett recorded testimony as Johnson & Lee restaurant dispute went before special judge Childers in E. B. Fields' courtroom. Attorneys John W. Clapp J. M. Wattenbarger represented the plaintiff while Earl Nelson and E. B. Fields defended Allen Lee. Case likely to be appealed.
All parties knowing themselves indebted to Summers and Ware are urged to call and settle at once. This public notice seeks prompt payment of outstanding accounts.
Browning and Fields led a lopsided win as Browning’s team shut out Purdin 11 to 0 at Heisman Park. Fields struck out 13 batters, while Browning, Fields and Williams formed the battery. Earlier, a second meeting at Purdin Diamond produced Browning 11 Purdin 12 with Adams and Duncan boosting the offense.
The Ladies Aid Society of the M. E. C. 8 met at the Crookshanks home with a large turnout and a 12 o'clock dinner. Devotional exercises were led by Rev. W. O. G. Potter. Four new names were recorded among members and guests were welcomed including Rev. Potter, Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer and several ladies and gentlemen.
A boys riding contest for those under 15 is scheduled for four in the afternoon. Riders must be jockeys under age fifteen. Prizes are five, eight, and one dollars.
Tandy Tully born May 14, 1827 in Fayette County Virginia died July 19 1911 in Garden City Kansas aged 84 years two months seven days. He married Louisa Casdoph producing four children. Alonzo survived. His second marriage to Mary Edens in 1863 in Kanawha County WV yielded six children four survive. He joined the M E Church early life and was respected in all communities he lived. Body brought to city July 21 funeral at M E church 1 pm then to Jenkins Cemetery. He lived near this city for years and was well known locally.
Monday's crowd in Browning watched Indian team and Browning square off with Arnold Brothers of North Salem filling pitcher and catcher roles. Browning had seven hits eight runs and one error while the Indians had five hits no runs and six errors. Vivien and Blaine formed the Indian battery with strong pitching from Arnold and Vivien. Umpire Jack Moore and scorer Will Austin observed the game as both teams fielded well despite the critic's view of an Indian mismatch.
Gable started but lacked control and F R Duncan finished for Pawnee. A single big Pawnee homer sparked a surge as errors plagued both sides. The Indians held a 17 to 13 lead at the end in a game noted for numerous mistakes.
Jennie Belle Myers born September 25, 1857 in Sullivan County Missouri daughter of Dan and an early settler family. She married W L Baker July 28 1880 and had son Albert Baker. She joined Mt Olive Baptist Church in 1876 and died July 15 after paralysis following malaria fever. Burial at Baker Cemetery after service at home conducted by Rev Gilbert. She leaves husband son and extended family with community sympathy.
John McCarty of Clarence purchased twenty four mules here last week described as among the finest seen. D S Smith of Purdin, a noted mule man, declared ten of the mules the best he has ever seen, acknowledging Smith’s history of fine stock.
