North Salem Church History and Lambert Incident 1902

The North Salem Methodist Episcopal church formed in 1862 and built a new church in 1870 now well maintained. It recalls the 1897 arrest of Ab Lambert for disturbing worship, a trial seen as a farce and a blow to the church, though Lambert was praised for his humanitarian motives. The Baptist church near Linn county’s Hart Minor was torn down about 15 years ago, and the Christian church at Salem operates without a fixed building, meeting in the Modern Woodmen hall when a minister visits.
