MRS MARTHA BARROWS DIES AT ELLIS HOSPITAL

Martha A Hooker born near Scottsville Missouri October 24 1858 died July 2 1983 at Ellis Hospital Kirksville after brief illness. She married Granville A Barrows December 5 1883 and raised eight children plus stepsons. Survived by many relatives and thirty grandchildren five great grandchildren. Funeral by Rev W W Clay at M E church burial Hoover cemetery. She united with Methodists early and guided others with faith and kindness.

Otis Morris son of Thomas R and Isa belle Brown Morris born June 14 1878 on a farm west of Purdin Missouri grew to manhood joined Christian church later Presbyterian in Wichita Kansas married Nellie Hun ter Feb 19 1899 two children Lucille Crooks and James Otis Morris survive with grandchild father and eight siblings mourn his death after two days illness in Wichita Kansas. Funeral at T R Morris home July 10 by Rev J E Rudloff interment Purdin cemetery.

Sunshine Workers Meeting Notes From July Gatherings

Sunshine Workers held a July 6 meeting with fourteen members and five visitors. The group opened with a song Elbow Room and answered roll call with a riddle. Birthday prizes were awarded to Ella Stufflebean Eunice Maggart and Cleo Heilman. Ima and Ruth Kille led the social hour. A July 12 meeting with Mary Christy followed, featuring a cooking or serving prompt. Next meeting planned with Myrtie Gray.

Mrs Bundridge Hosts Family Guests Sunday

Mrs Nelia Bundridge entertained for Sunday July 9 with her children and grandchildren including Mr and Mrs James Bundridge of Kahoka Missouri Mr and Mrs Payne Deering of Tucson Arizona Mr and Mrs Earl Gocch and daughter Helen near Purdin Mr and Mrs R A Thurlo and son Eugene Mr and Mrs Cecil Taylor Mr and Mrs Verl Dell and son James Leonard. A most enjoyable time was spent.

Miss Orpha Jacobs and Ross Cochran of Milan were married in Milan on Thursday of last week. The bride, from pioneer local families, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Jacobs and well regarded in the community. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cochran, has worked at the Ray Sevier heating and plumbing shop for many years. The ceremony surprised many friends, and well wishes are offered for happiness and prosperity.

Married in Trenton on July Sth

Robert Moore of this city and Miss Beverly Duncan of Brookfield wed after obtaining a marriage license in Trenton. They returned home where the bride visited her parents and the couple settled in the city. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs K M Duncan, is active in church circles. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs John B Moore, is a Brookfield high school graduate working at Peters Meat Market. The couple are welcomed by friends and will reside in the city.

Friendship Circle Club Meets Amid Polite Recital and Games

The Friendship Circle Club met with Mrs. Kathryn Smith on Wednesday afternoon July 5. The program opened with singing Old Black Joe and the Lord's Prayer. Members offered views on life in 1950, a hostess reading, a newspaper feature, and an entertaining stunt. Winners of two contests were Mrs. Frances Smith and Mrs. Ednard Bagley. Sandwiches and iced tea were served by the committee.

Surprise Birthday Dinner For Miss Ella At Ingraham Home

A July birthday gathering was hosted at the Ingraham home east of Cora honoring Miss Ella. Relatives and friends arrived with baskets for a noon meal under trees, a large spread shared, and guests later departed after an embroidered friendship quilt gift. Attendance included many named locals and nearby families. rain shortened some invitations. An all day church event follows at White Oak Church on July 16 with Rev B Pipes of Ft Scott preaching.
