Fifty Year Anniversary Surprise Dinner for Browning Couple
A large community gathering marked the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Browning. About 120 relatives and neighbors gathered at their old home place for a surprise dinner under elm trees, sharing ice water and a long table. The event recalled their early life near North Salem and the farm they built over forty two years, with many family members listed as attendees.

Egg Candling Conference Aims to Aid Middle West Poultry
A recent Egg Candling Conference in New York shares results likely to benefit Middle West poultry raisers. Four-fifths of US poultry come from general farms, with commercial farms at one fifth. Candling focuses on yolk quality as eggs are examined by light. Produce dealers seek to align standards with commercial raisers.

Middle Western eggs lose value due to yolk color
A letter argues yolk color affects egg pricing. Dark yolks from green feeds bias toward lower perceived freshness, unfairly penalizing Middle Western eggs. Producers must improve uniformity and handling to fetch market prices comparable to commercial farms.
