The Missouri legislature wrapped up a fractious special session after about eighty seven days. Key actions included a sales tax and prohibition repeal with new liquor laws expected to raise millions for the treasury and fund relief, schools, and expenses.
The Willing Workers gathered Wednesday January 10 with Mrs Helen Martin. Members discussed New Year resolutions, elected new officers, and planned a birthday shower for Mrs Maude Christy if she attended. Attendees included Mabel Brown Mary Griffis Anna Hatch Lois Haley Carlyn Haley Nora Harris Cornelia Harris Madie Martin Hazel Martin and others. Next meeting set for January 24 with Mrs Cecil Cotter.

Sevier-Spencer M Spencer and Miss Mildred Sevier of Cora married Sunday at Linneus with Rev. Hoover officiating. After a visit to Brookfield for a show they began a honey moon trip to St Louis. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Sevier, is widely known in Cora, a former high school student beloved by the community. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs G M Spencer, is a progressive farmer. The union unites two highly respected Sullivan county families and well wishes flow from friends.
Mr and Mrs Asa Badger hosted a bridge party with three tables on Wednesday evening January 10. Noel Bennett won high score as guests enjoyed conversation and refreshments prepared by Mrs Ella Stufflebean and Mrs Marjorie Lay. Attendees included Dorothy Arnold, Herbert Sayer, Gladys Montgomery, Ray Maggart, the Bennetts, Earl Nickell family, Wayne Stufflebean family, Richard Hateh, and the hosts with Mrs Marjorie Lay and Mrs Ella Stufflebean assisting.
Willard Edgar Creason, son of James and Sarah Creason, born December 8 1859 in Sullivan County Missouri, died January 10 1934 in Browning aged 74 years, after a burn injury. Funeral at Baptist church in Browning led by Rev E John Meyers, interment Hoover cemetery. survived by three brothers and sister, with many relatives and friends sending sympathy.
The Creason family expresses gratitude to friends for kindness shown during the illness death and burial of Willard Edgar Creason and mentions R A Creason Frank Creason and H E Creason.
Farmers Exchange Bank of Humphreys elected directors for the ensuing year John Humphreys John Harding Gus Allen Ray Allen and Dr M I Haning after their Tuesday meeting at the Humphreys banking house Floyd C Pratt cashier and M W Bagley assistant cashier were noted. The bank organized in 1890 reports federal insurance and rising deposits despite three panics.
Mrs Vadis Alspach hosted Live Wire Sunday school at her home on Monday evening January 15th. Erma Peterson opened the meeting and officers were elected including Frances Carr as president James Calhoun as vice president Marie Bennett as secretary Vadis Alspach as S secretary and Evelyn Gable as chaplin. Refreshments were served late with Rev Luton and Mrs Kathryn Calhoun among those present.
