Corn-Hog farm group plans 1934 meetings schedule

An educational meeting for corn-hog township committees outlined why about 70 percent of 1934 signers sought a program next year. Emergency county agent explained causes, new contract rulings were reviewed, and a county schedule of meetings was set for ongoing farmer guidance.

Willing Workers Club Meets for All Day Quilt Session

The Willing Workers club met January 9 with Mrs. Marie Vincent hosting an all day gathering. Ten members and one visitor attended as roads forced walking. Birthday gift given to Mrs. Maude Christy. meeting closed with The Old Rugged Cross. Next gathering set for January 23 with Mrs. Henry Taylor.

Superintendent M. A. Holman was re elected to serve another year after a school board meeting Friday night in the city. He has long served in the role and is regarded as one of the best school men the district has had in years.

Young Couple Married at Linneus in Surprise Ceremony

Everett Myers and Miss Ruby Calhoun wed last Thursday afternoon in Linneus after securing a license and joining Judge A L Pratt in matrimony. The bride, a city native, graduated from the local high school and worked at the telephone company. the groom, longtime Navy veteran, recently discharged and now employed at Owl Pharmacy. The couple reside at the Mairs home while friends send congratulations. Also noted are local club activities and social events including a January meeting and contests with several winners.

Home Workers Club Holds All Day Session

The Home Workers Club met with Mrs. Ray Bennett on December 27 for an all day gathering. Fourteen members answered roll call as they exchanged hints on fishing. A covered dish luncheon followed, prayers were recited, then activity resumed with hemming embroidering tea towels and piecing quilt blocks for Nancy. At 1:30 the group held a business meeting, sang The Old Rugged Cross, and Nancy planned two contests including a treasure hunt with five prizes.

Basil Lay son of Oliver Lay near this city was elected treasurer of the Chicago Dux Club an alumni organization of Chillicothe Business College. The club has over 500 members and conducts social and athletic activities with annual winter party and picnic at Wooded Isle Jackson Park. Basil works for Acme Fast Freight Service.

Compensation Awards Highlight Linn County 1933 Jobs

Linn County workers received 1552 for compensation and medical care in 1933 from the Missouri Workmen's Compensation Commission. The Seventh Annual report shows 45 injuries in Linn County and, since the commission's 1927 inception, total authorizations reach 27,874,451 for compensation and medical attention in Missouri through 1933.

Senator Dail In Wreck Involving Dail Family Near New Cambria

Sen Dail and Mrs Dail were in a head on collision on state highway 36 near New Cambria Sunday night. Mrs Lena Marshall of Brookfield was injured and taken to a Brookfield hospital with potential fatal injuries. Harriette Rose also suffered a broken jaw and 12 year old Jerry Dail was lightly cut. The Dails were returning to Jefferson City after visiting in Marceline. Mrs Marshall drove west toward Brookfield.
