The Comedy Vaudville under B. J. Harvey at the Electric Theater drew strong praise. Performers delivered creditable turns with ample humor from curtain rise to finish. Despite poor roads and weather keeping rural audiences away, the show reportedly covered expenses.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Warren entertained on Sunday January 12 with a one o clock three course dinner for Rev. Earl Federhase Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Turner Mrs. Jennie Epperson and Earl Stone. All enjoyed the feast and pleasant afternoon visit with the Warrens.
Mrs Roy M Calhoun hosted a Sunday dinner for her husband on January 12 inviting a select group of friends. A well prepared feast included a luscious white cake decorated for the occasion. Guests included Mrs Hinda Rush Mrs Lorene Whaley and Mr and Mrs Hardy Cal.
On Sunday January 5 a fine New Year dinner was hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Stephenson. Guests included many Stephenson relatives plus friends and children, with an evening of conversation music and games ending as guests departed wishing for more such gatherings.
Junior Stars of the Church of Christ Sunday School were entertained by Luther Baker at the A. M. Baker home last Friday evening. Each boy brought a guest and the happy gathering featured progressive rock with winners Mervin Garrett and Harvey Fields Dickinson.
Mrs. C. B. Purdin slipped on wet church steps Sunday and dislocated her right shoulder. She was taken home where Dr. Haning reset the bone and she is progressing well. The janitor had spread ashes on the ice to reduce slipping after rain.
Mrs. K. M. Duncan hosted the local P. E. O. Chapter on a Wednesday in January. Mrs. W. H. Dickinson led in President's absence. A Founders Day program, arranged by Mrs. H. L. Schreck, reenacted the 1869 Mt. Pleasant Iowa meeting by seven founders. Guest Mrs. Herbert Bailey attended social hour. Duncan served a two course luncheon.

Last Thursday Charley Tucker traveled with a group of boys through heavy snow seeking help. Fay Pef Sd and W. P. Barkley aided their trek while Lee Brantner and G. W. Knifong's farm offered shelter but drifted snow blocked progress. Frank Tucker and Charley led the final push home with Will guiding from a slower pace. all pledged not to repeat the perilous crossing.
Simpson of Milan and Coon of Chillicothe were married at Rev. George Purdy's home in Chillicothe on January 8. The groom, a Quincy mechanic, is son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Simpson of Milan. the bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Coon, grew up in Chillicothe. Witnesses included Mrs. Coon and several Schooler relatives. They will live at the bride’s home in Chillicothe before moving to Quincy. The Leader-Record extends best wishes.

Elizabeth Linhart Campbell Baker Pickens died at age 94 in this city after living with Rev. and Mrs. Potter. She married several times, leaving three brothers and two sisters. She helped the poor and was a faithful Gospel member, with services led by Elder C E Potter and burial at Enterprise cemetery.
The family expresses gratitude to neighbors and friends for kindness during Elizabeth Pickens sickness and burial. Thanks are extended for flowers and assistance to Mrs. Mary Jacobs, S. H. Linhart and family and others.
Mr and Mrs Cale Smith and their family left town to return to the farm Monday after living here since the start of the school term. The move is noted with good humor as the family likely tired of eating their own cooking.
Governor Caulfield decided not to summon a special session to study the Missouri State Survey Commission recommendations to overhaul eleemosynary penal higher education and public schools at a cost of 158 million dollars over twelve years. State officials praised his prudent choice citing no emergency and lessons from last year's lengthy, unproductive session. The plan would have required extensive time and debate before any meaningful action could occur.
A special notice states that no reduction of three cents per testing cream will be allowed. It cites F M Stamper Co and L O Wykoff as related parties.
The Civic Club met January 5 at 3 p m at the Electric Theatre with several members present. It voted to set aside half of all funds for a Community Building fund and will seek monthly increases with citizen support. Eunice Dickinson, Press Reporter.
Local notice reports a move to Purdin opposite Richardson and Miller's garage with a complete harness shop and readiness to begin operations. The brief indicates the owner plans to offer harnesses and related gear from the new location.

Last week a major blizzard buried roads with twelve to fifteen inches of snow causing drifts and blocked streets. Temperatures plunged below zero while trains and mails were delayed and farmers faced hardship. Citizens cleared paths and merchants sold many overshoes as crews worked to reopen routes. Temperatures remained below zero into Tuesday and Wednesday.
