Woodrow A. Spencer and Lula Mae Hollon wed in Milan after securing a license and a Justice of Peace ceremony. The couple, both described as well liked, will reside with Elmer Johnson and begin their life together after a three o clock dinner hosted by Evert Hollon and Earl Peters.
Reverend Simmons will fill his regular appointment at the M. E. Church next Sunday inviting all to attend the service.
The Home Workers club met November 28 with seven members present due to poor weather. They planned a December 13 meeting with Gaylord Quigley, shared a covered dish lunch, held a brief business session, quilted and pieced on a comfort top, and mapped plans for a New Year supper and program. Next meeting to be with Mrs Ray Bennett.
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Hummel hosted a Sunday turkey dinner for guests including Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Sloan of Guthrie Oklahoma Mr. and Mrs. Guy Adams Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gooch and Patricia Mrs. Jentle Epperson Mrs. Dercas Harvey Mrs. Lou Caster and Miss E. Keithley The hostess was aided by Josie Jones noted for culinary skill and the Hummels are praised for hospitality.
The Stitch and Chatter Club met with Ima Elliott on December 27 in a Christmas gathering. Twenty five members attended including 13 men and many named in the guest list. presents were exchanged and a noontime dinner followed by a two o’clock business meeting. The group plans to meet again with Clara Hanman on January 8, 1935.
The Dizzle Dazzle club met at Majorie Myers's home on Friday afternoon December 21. Members exchanged Christmas gifts and sewed until 5. Marjorie and her mother served a two course luncheon. Attending were Gladys Tunnell Beverly Moore Vadis Alspach Frances Carr Erma Peterson and Gladys and Oma Atkins.
Erma Peterson entertained her sewing club on Thursday afternoon December 27. Dorothy attended and joined in the stitching and conversation.
Atkins was an invited guest among Myrtle Peterson Marjorie Myers Beverly Moore Evelyn Gable Frances Carr Oma and Gladys Atkins. The hostess served lovely refreshments.
Mrs C W Gooch entertained the Cinderella club members on Monday evening December 17 at 7 o clock. Six tables of bridge were played with Mrs Geo W Prather winning high score prize. Each guest received a gift from the Christmas tree.
Mr and Mrs George W Prather entertained a small group Saturday evening December 22 with guests including Mr and Mrs Jerry Jennings Mrs Dorothy Atkins Mr and Mrs Noel Bennett Mr and Mrs Joe Nevins Fay Prather and Elizabeth Ann Noel Bennett won honors at bridge.
Family members gathered for a Christmas dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Peterson. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Peterson and Miss Erma. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Nevins and sons Jimmie and Donald. Mrs. Rachel D. Nevins. Mr. and Mrs. Gail Stuart of Mancos Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jennings and daughter Marilyn Jane. and Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Peterson.
The Mid-Week Bridge Club held a six-table progressive game on Wednesday night December 26 at Mrs. Leon Kenley home. High scores went to Zelma Stufflebean and Leon Kenley while booby prizes went to Beulah Ruth and Kenneth Williams. Guests included Lester Peters and Mervin Garrett with Betty Jean Baker and Luther Baker.
Neighbors and friends held an old fashioned oyster stew party on Saturday celebrating Sunday as Mrs Roy Calhoun's birthday. Prizes for bridge high score went to Mrs Calhoun and J P Bolling. Attendees included J P Bolling J D Lay J I Harmon Chas Thornton Mrs Lorraine Whaley Miss Ella Keithley Miss Virginia Bolling Mrs Jennie Epperson and others who wished her many more birthdays.
Mrs. Willis E. Gooch writes from Larned Kansas December 29 1934 to Joe about sending three dollars for a subscription and plans to pay the rest early next year She notes a mild winter no snow good roads moisture earlier and wheat looking healthy with pasture for cattle and sheep arriving from the west She wishes a Happy New Year and thanks the recipient for sending the paper.
The 1935 corn hog production control contract for Missouri farmers emphasizes farmer influence, with state and local committees guiding sign up and compliance. Signers may plant soybeans or other crops on idle land, but must not exceed 90 percent of 1932-33 corn and hog bases, yielding $15 per hog for the 10 percent reduction. President Roosevelt addressed the Farm Bureau Federation by telephone, praising farm progress and urging continued support.
County Agent Hall notes that Linn County hog meat quality this year is poorer and requires careful handling in killing and curing. The brian method for sticking bleeding and curing is described in Farm Bureau publications available upon request at the office.
Farmers warned that seed entering Missouri and Linn County from distant locations may carry noxious weeds and new diseases. County Agent Hall urges buying seed from regions where it performs well locally and testing all seed due to high costs. Seed oats will be made available to Linn and Sullivan counties with details and distribution terms noted on page eight.
