In Columbia Missouri on February 26 1918 merchants plead ignorance of federal food admin rules. Many sold excess flour and sugar while others claim no official notice of limits and the requirement to sell equal amounts of other cereals with each flour sale. F B Mumford responds that ignorance is not an excuse under the Food Act.
Citizens and merchants flood inquiries about the latest food regulations as the state food administration prepares a bulletin detailing recent rules governing sale and consumption of food commodities.
Mr and Mrs James Crist and daughter Arlene spent three weeks here visiting relatives including George Crist near North Salem before traveling to Chillicothe and then Calgary Alberta. Jim says ten years away, passport expiry forced return but plans closer visits in future. He has prospered in Canada since Prohibition and promises to visit again, though time was short.

The Linn County News lists men slated to entrain for Camp Funston on February 27. A remaining possibility exists for one to five men not listed if their claims are decided in time and they stay in Class One, replacing the last named in the list.
A 1918 letter from Ray at Camp Lee describes moving to Belmont after Newark and New York City, packing gear, receiving mail and a commission, and plans to drive sixty trucks to Belmont near Washington. He notes good weather, scarce food rumors, and sending photographs and a candy box from Mac.
The Junior Council of Defence presented A Noble Outcast at Prairie Mound Friday night February 22. The cast drew a large attentive audience and earned hearty applause between acts. Receipts totaled eighteen dollars and fifty cents for the council’s credit.
The three remaining Mitchell children Joe F aged 15 years 8 months 17 days Ralph Lee aged 7 years 7 months 21 days and Anna May aged 2 years months 17 days died within days of each other. The obituary notes eight children died in twenty days as an awful calamity for Mr and Mrs E H Mitchell and their community.
