McClellan Rites Held At Haseville Methodist Church

Mrs. Sarah Smith McClellan born December 4 1867 in Putnam County Missouri died at 83 in Browning Missouri after eight years with her niece. Funeral Feb 4 1951 at 2 30 pm conducted by Rev Geeda Christy with music by local quartets. Interment Haseville cemetery under Wade Funeral Home direction.

The Friendly Neighbors Club gathered January 28 1951 at Shelby school house to honor January and February birthdays. Two guests Mr and Mrs Bill Bailey joined nine members and families for a hamburger fry and trimmings. After supper they played pitch and canasta and planned March and April birthday events.

Isaac Newton Lane, born August 11, 1887, died January 30, 1951 at his home. He was survived by his wife Eva Merrick Lane and one sister, with services held February 1, 1951 at Locust Valley Baptist Church in Laredo. Burial followed at Locust Valley Cemetery.

Salisbury Airman Returns From Korea After 67 Missions

First Lieutenant Leon Laske U S Air Force arrived in Salisbury after 31 months in Japan and Korea. He flew 67 attacks as B 26 navigator over North Korea and China during the Korean War earning a possible Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters. His account recalls landing a stricken B 26 under heavy ground fire near Waegwan Korea in October 1950. He served seven years in the Army including navigation instruction at Selman Field and hopes for duty in the United States.
