Vandalism Costs Missouri Highway Signs Heavy Toll
The State Highway Commission estimates at least 75 000 dollars yearly are spent replacing damaged road signs and markers. Vandalism and thoughtless acts last week included four destroyed markers and a bullet eroded warning sign at a Springfield area bridge. Replacements cost seven to eight dollars for small markers and twenty to twenty five dollars for larger ones, with statewide losses mounting weekly. Public cooperation could reduce this waste as funds are tight for roadwork in 1952.
