Gideons Place Bible in Hotel Rooms in 1899 Origins
The Gideons formed on July 1 1899 in Janesville Wisconsin by John H Nicholson W J Knight and S E Hill to distribute Bibles in hotel rooms. The idea began in 1898 at the Central hotel of Boscobel Wisconsin and grew into an international organization with hundreds of thousands of members placing about 600 000 Bibles in American hotel rooms.
