Entertained Wednesday morning August 17 Patricia Gooch hosted a breakfast honoring Miss Mary Jane Charles and Miss Dorothy Shirley of Bogard. Guests included Nona Neet Mary Carter Charlene Heggard Lorene Stone Dorothy Alspach Mae Linhart Annabeth Worley Hazel Maggart and others. Lorene Stone won high score with consolation to Mary Carter. Prizes added for the guest of honor.
Softball at Browning Park on Thursday at 6 00 for single men against married men. Friday at 6 00 Boy Scouts versus Baseball Club with club members throwing and batting opposite their usual style. Admission five cents.
The Redbirds postponed Sundays game with the Kansas City Police due to wet ground after Saturdays heavy rain. They plan to play out of town next Sunday and seek to reschedule home games with the Police the Moberly Colored team the Columbia Merchants and the Trenton Ban Johnson team.
The Navy Department announced fourteen Aviation Cadets in the U S Naval Reserve designated as Naval Aviators on July 14. They will be detached from Pensacola, Florida, late August to join aircraft squadrons of the United States Fleet. Arthur J Brassfield of Browning Missouri is listed, assigned to Scouting Squadron 41 aboard USS Ranger.
By order of the Board of Aldermen no penalties will be collected on delinquent taxes if paid by November 1. Nell Williams, City Collector.
Mrs Iva Clapp hosted the Jolly Janes Club on Wednesday with seven teen members and five visitors. The White Elephant Sale raised 1.26 dollars. Eva Monroe Marjory Smith Opal Gall sang contests Beaulah Simpson read. Next meeting August 31 with Mrs Roxie Finney. Afterward members enjoyed iced tea and cookies.
The Peterson reunion gathered sixty relatives and eighteen friends at Simpson Park Chillicothe last Sunday August 21 in ideal weather. Attendees from Albia Bradstown Breckenridge Browning Cameron Chillicothe Green City and other towns joined to honor N E Peterson now living with his daughter. A family tree created years ago traces the line back to before the Revolutionary War and is printed in a valued book with letters and pictures.

Rev O B Hobbs will preach at 11 o clock next Sunday August 28 at North Salem church. Everyone is invited. Sunday marks the annual home coming with a large crowd expected.
The Jerome family held their annual reunion at the White Oak Church on Sunday August 21 amid heavy rain the night before. A noon feast followed by visits led to a plan to meet again next year on the third Sunday in August with many relatives from Oklahoma Missouri and Illinois attending.
On August 17 1938 thirty three relatives friends and neighbors gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs W I Myers in Purdin Missouri to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary They were married southeast of Winigan Missouri by Rev Geo Worley on August 17 1888 The couple have seven children Ray Roy Wade Ada Mae deceased Austin Purdin Ruby Helen deceased Oletha Hunt and two grandchildren Clin ton Myers and Algie Myers They received many gifts and the cake was served on the crystal stand used for their wedding cake. Attending were numerous family and friends including Roy Myers Henry Love Geo Green Nettie Parks J S Wright Milton Forrest Bill Morris Velma Hicks Loraine Sarah Highfill Susie Gerian Austin Myers Bobbie John H Myers Jane Hardin Dave Ogle Eva Williams Van Vencill Jane Fannie Head Mildred Kennedy Lon McNally Frank Miller and Ray Myers.

Mid week prayer services will be held at the home of Rev. O B Hobbs tonight instead of Mrs Bertha Riddle's as previously announced. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend these services.
Prof Robert S Ellwood and family from Normal Illinois visited Shanks in their weeklong stay. Ellwood recently completed a high school sociology textbook coauthored with Prof John Kinneman, published by Houghton Mifflin. The couple and son Robert Jr will vacation in the Ouachita Mountains near Hot Springs Arkansas, while Audrey Ann visits her aunt.
Mr and Mrs Ellwood and children will return to Normal by the second week in September for the opening of the fall term of the college.
S. S. Cotter returned Monday with his son and daughter in law from a 2500 mile journey through seven states and Canada. They visited relatives in Saginaw Michigan and Granite City Illinois and were hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Francis Gooch. Weather was cool and crops in the visited states were reported fine.
Patrons of the Browning Farm Club met at the plant for an evening of entertainment and organization. Thirteen competitors vied for three awards with winners Spencer Britton reading first John Browning violin third and three judges judging by applause. Speakers R O Yowell and McKee urged farm organization amid refreshments for about three hundred attendees.
Mr. and Mrs. Orley See Mrs. America Fleming Mrs. J R Williams and C B Fleming returned Friday evening from relatives in Ohio. Mr and Mrs See left Monday for the Black Hills of South Dakota to attend a Sorority meeting and expect to arrive home in Piedmont California September 12.
The Sullivan county central Committee met on August 16 and again on August 23 to fill the ticket. Officers named were Edward Lawrence as Chairman Mrs C S Dickson as vice chairwoman Miss Avis Wattenbarger as secretary and John Rogers as treasurer. Vacancies filled include Probate Judge J M Border Circuit Clerk and Ex officio Recorder C S Dickson County Clerk Harry Rhodes and Prosecuting Attorney Harold Dobson.
A severe Saturday night storm caused heavy rain and lightning damage. J J De’s home lost a flue crown, Mrs. Jennie Epperson’s house suffered broken windows and falling plaster but she was unharmed, and a spring in an upstairs room was displaced. Johnson Chevrolet Co. garage motors burned out and telephone lines needed repairs for blown fuses.
